Dr Doina Ionescu is an experienced UK–Europe–Global healthcare business leader with over 25 years in Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences, and Electronics. Since May 2020, she has served as Merck’s General Manager for the UK & Ireland, driving strategic growth and operational excellence. 

Doina joined Merck as a research scientist in 1998 and has since held a broad spectrum of roles—from General Management and Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions to Commercial Operations across emerging and mature markets. She has a proven track record in international expansion, product launches, lifecycle management, and strategic M&A—supported by successful post-acquisition integrations and exit strategies.   

Doina also serves on the ABPI Board of Directors as the representative for small and medium sized businesses, additionally chairing the board-sponsored Health Data and Digital group. A physicist by training, she holds a Master’s in Nuclear Physics, a PhD in Physical Chemistry, an Executive MBA, and an FT London Master’s in Company Direction.
